My Movies: Alien

Whilst returning home to Earth, the crew of the Nostromo are awoken from their stasis by the ship’s computer to investigate an unidentified signal on a strange planet.

The alien quatrilogy was one of those you would see in the shops with the tripple digit price tag on it, and you would say to yourself, I wouldn’t mind having that. Whether it be because of some sort of insanity or something, I managed to get the nine disc box from HMV for €30 last year. I would have probably bought them individually eventually, but it seemed like a chance not to be ignored.

I wouldn’t have been a big fan of Alien when I was younger, due, probably to how long it was. But when you watch it you realise that it picks up fairly quickly. Some films have a tendancy to take forever to get going.

Considering it was made in 1979, the effects are not bad either. They hold up almost 30 years later.

The Workplace Equipment Adaptation Grant

This has been in operation for a while, however, yours truly only became aware of it after several recruitment agencies would respond to the revalation that one has a visual impairment with “hmm, I don’t know about that, followed two days later by by the PFO.

Anyway, returning to the subject at hand. it is FÁS who administer this grant for anyone who succeeds in gaining employment in the private sector if they have a disability.

This can include the installation of wheelchair accessible toilets, ramps, amplified telephones, or computers with speech or magnification software installed. The grant can also be applied for if someone with a disability has been working in the private sector for a while and requires their accessibility equipment to be upgraded, for example, if an employer decided to upgrade the operating system on their computer network, a new version of Lunar or Hal might be required.

Either the employer or the employee can apply for the grant by printing and filling out the forms linked below. These forms are then submitted to the local FÁS office for processing.

In the case of both Lunar and Hal, a 30 day evaluation period of the aforementioned software packages is available to downloa should you need to use it immediately. This should hopefully tide you over until such time FÁS has processed your application.

VAT can also be reclaimed by the employer when they have filled out the second linked form below.

My Movies: Alice in Wonderland

During a boring history lesson, Alice finds herself falling into astrange world with unusual creatures, and where the normal becomes abnormal.

I am trying to collect all 44 of the Disney animations. This is number 13 in the series, which was originally released in 1951.

A number of the Disney animations of this time, while high in visual quality, did tend to have somewhat psychedelic properties to it. One would wonder it the person who directed it was under the influence of something.

Not the best of Disney that I have. It is a little bit “out there” for my taste, nonetheless it is nice to have as part of my growing collection.
